Journeyman Welder

Welder is responsible to perform assigned duties in a safe and efficient manner and abide by all Company policies and procedures. Welder’s duties include but is not limited production welding, service & repair welding, prototype building, fabrication and fitter welding. The use of various hand tools, machinery and equipment will be required to manufacture metal products. Welder is required to assist the various divisions with insight and knowledge of superior manufacturing methods, perform random maintenance, and have strong knowledge and skill in operating all metalworking machinery. Required to be able to read and understand production drawings, blueprints, work orders and other written instructions.

Primary Responsibilities:

In general, but not limited to:

  • Determine required equipment and welding method, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry and welding techniques.
  • Use manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal pieces using processes such as gas tungsten arc (TIG or GTAW), gas metal arc (MIG or GMAW), flux-cored arc (FAW), plasma arc (PAW), shielded metal arc (SMAW), oxy-acetylene (OAW), resistance welding and submerged arc welding (SAW).
  • Weld components in flat, vertical, overhead and any “out-of-position” angle.
  • Apply advanced skills in procedures, techniques, tools, materials and/or equipment as appropriate to area of specialization.
  • Repair worn parts of metal products.
  • Welders may specialize in certain types of welding, such as custom fabrication, ship building and repair, aerospace precision welding, pressure vessel welding, pipeline construction welding, structural construction welding or machinery, and equipment repair welding.
  • Perform all work in compliance with established safety procedures and codes
  • Duties as they may arise that would fulfill the mandate of providing excellent service to the client

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Alberta Certified Journeyman Welder (Red Seal Certification with CWB is an asset);
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of welding experience
  • Ice Lugging experience is considered an asset;
  • Ability to read and interpret basic blue prints;
  • Experienced Fabrication welding required;
  • Experience with Heavy Equipment repairs is required;
  • Shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), Gas metal arc welding (GMAW) (MIG), Flux core arc welding (FCAW), Stick Welding and Gouging (CAC-A);
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license;
  • CSTS/OSSA or CSO or BSO
  • Fall Arrest, Confined Space,
  • Must be physically fit, position involves extensive walking, climbing and awkward positions as well as carrying of materials;
  • Able to work independently and as part of a professional maintenance team
